WASHINGTON, Conn.—The Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens welcomes Sherri Nicole Miller and Gregory Dunbar for their joint art exhibition, “Reassembled,” on view at the park beginning Friday, July 31. The exhibition brings together layered composite photography and woven photographic works to explore themes of time, memory, transformation and the tension between order and change.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 3 to 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Through their distinct yet complementary practices, Miller and Dunbar examine how human perception shapes and reshapes the world—through the lens of a camera, through the physical act of weaving, and through the selective nature of memory itself. Both artists use deconstruction and reassembly as central processes, yielding works that are simultaneously fragmented and whole.

Miller, a lens-based artist who divides her time between New York City and the Berkshires, works with botanical subjects that she plants, nurtures, and documents through their natural decay. By layering and fusing images, her composite photographs depart from their subjects’ original states, blending fragments into singular works that operate as surrogates for memory—partial, selective, and continually reconstructed. 

“When does an experience in the present, right now, become a fragment of the past?” Miller said. “Through our memories, we have the ability to alter the passage of time to feel compressed, stretched or frozen. Yet, although we have always sought to control time, our subjection to it is inevitable, as the past and present are inextricably intertwined.”
